In Their Own Write

An anthology of the top finishers in the 2021 Young Writer's Competition. Today, I am 8,762 days old. Joanna was waiting for Martha in the garden. She was sitting on the bench looking at the water fountain and the beautiful flowers all around her. A couple of slams, yanks, and bangs later, we mounted into the driver and passenger seats and began our voyage home. The years 1914 and 1918 are the ones that will always be remembered. And she laughed and then cried and then laughed. It was like a vehicle of utter mayhem. I woke up to the sounds of sirens and I saw my dad holding my mom back as she sobbed and groped the air.
